The Rift Trails Harassment Policy
 

Introduction

The Rift Trails is committed to creating a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment for all members. Harassment of any kind, including being directed at any Rift staff or team members, will not be tolerated. This policy outlines the types of behavior considered harassment and the steps we will take to address and prevent it.

Definition of Harassment

Harassment includes, but is not limited to:

  • Unwanted attention, including sexual advances and comments

  • Threats, intimidation, or shaming

  • Posting personal information (doxing)

  • Insults or derogatory comments based on race, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or any other intrinsic attribute

  • Cyberstalking and persistent unwanted contact
     

Disrespectful Behavior in Public Chats

At The Rift Trails, we strive to maintain a respectful and inclusive environment for all members, especially in our public chat spaces. Disrespectful behavior towards moderators, staff, or other team members will not be tolerated.

 

Examples of disrespectful behavior include, but are not limited to:

  • Insults or derogatory language directed at individuals

  • Excessive arguing or heated debates on sensitive topics

  • Dismissive or condescending attitudes towards others

  • Purposefully disrupting conversations or gameplay

 

While we encourage open discussions, all members must remain respectful and mindful of others, especially in our general chat channels where conversations are visible to the entire community ("ponies").

 

If a member engages in disrespectful behavior in a public chat:

  1. They will receive a warning from a moderator and a ticket will be opened to discuss their behavior.

  2. If the behavior continues, they may be temporarily muted or removed from that chat channel.

  3. Repeated or severe instances of disrespect can result in a temporary or permanent ban from the discord.
     

Reporting Harassment

If you experience or witness harassment, please report it immediately to the community managers (CMs) via our designated reporting channels:

  • Open a staff-request-ticket

  • Or DM a CM or Manager if you do not want to open a ticket.

 

All reports will be handled confidentially and with the utmost seriousness.

Response to Harassment

Upon receiving a report of harassment, the following steps will be taken:

  1. Initial Assessment: A CM or Manager will review the report and gather any necessary information.

  2. Immediate Action: If the harassment poses an immediate threat, the harasser will be temporarily banned pending further investigation.

  3. Investigation: The moderators will conduct a thorough investigation, including speaking with involved parties and reviewing evidence.

  4. Resolution: Based on the findings, appropriate action will be taken, which may include warnings, temporary bans, or permanent bans. In extreme cases, management can also go to law enforcement.
     

Support for Victims

We understand that experiencing harassment can be distressing. The Rift Trails offers:

  • Access to mental wellness resources and self-care tips

  • Referrals to external support services

  • Assistance with reporting harassment to authorities if necessary
     

Anti-Retaliation

The Rift Trails strictly prohibits any form of retaliation against individuals who report harassment, participate in investigations, or oppose discriminatory conduct. Retaliation is a serious violation of this policy and will not be tolerated.
 

Definition of Retaliation

Retaliation refers to any adverse action or treatment that occurs because an individual reported harassment, filed a complaint, or participated in an investigation related to harassment. Examples of retaliation include but are not limited to:

  • Termination or Demotion

  • Denial of promotion or benefits

  • Exclusion from teams or activities 

  • Threats, intimidation, or harassment.
     

Community Guidelines

All members are expected to:

  • Treat others with respect and kindness

  • Avoid offensive language or harassing behavior

  • Support and uplift marginalized voices

  • Report violations of this policy
     

Enforcement

The Rift Trails is dedicated to enforcing this policy consistently and fairly. Any violation will face consequences as outlined above. Repeat offenders risk permanent bans.
